Filipp Shalayev

Filipp Shalayev (26th of November 1929, Bryansk Oblast, Russian SFSR – 29th of December 2008, Riga, Republic of Latvia) – an animalist and a portrait painter.

Being an instrument mechanic, Shalayev started painting at the age of 32 at the studio of popular fine arts by the VEF industrial plant. In 1975 his first personal exhibition took place at the Latvian Museum of Natural History.  Also, he held his exhibitions in Moscow, Amsterdam and Berlin. His works can be found at different Riga museums, including the Latvian National Art Museum, as well as in private collections in Latvia and abroad.
