Yelena Bulgakova
Yelena Bulgakova (born Nürenberg; 1893, Riga, Russian Empire –1970, Moscow, Russian SFSR) – translator, spouse of Mikhail Bulgakov, a famous writer. The prototype for Margarita in his novel «The Master and Margarita».
Y.Bulgakova was born in Riga and studied in Riga Lomonosov gymnasum. During the 1-st World War she moved to Moscow and began to work in information agency ROSTA and then in the newspaper «Izvestiya». In 1929 Yelena got acquainted with M.Bulgakov who experienced hard times in his life. They got married and Yelena became not only his spouse but also the source of inspiration for M.Bulgakov's works. She was a reliable wife and partner, helped him in his creative activities. She retained his writer's archives, unique manuscrits. Y.Bulgakova demonstrated a talent of manager and after her husband's death concluded contracts with many publishing houses which published his works.
Thanks to the efforts of Yelena Bulgakova his famous novel «The Master and Margarita» was published after 26 years of the author's death.
