The Latvian Department of civil aviation
The Latvian Department of civil aviation was considered to be one of the best in the USSR. In 1974 a new airport ‘Riga’ was built (architect L. Ivanov), connecting the capital of Latvia with all Soviet republics, the largest industrial centres and resorts of the USSR. But there were no international flights from ‘Riga’ airport, although technically it was possible.
There were 79 air-routes from Riga to other cities of the USSR.
