Leonid Tsilevitch

Leonid Tsilevitch (1925, Kharkov, Ukrainian SSR –  2017, Hadera, Israel) – Habilitated Doctor of Philology (Dr. habil. philol.), professor of Daugavpils Pedagogical Institute. His parents originated from Latvia.

L. Tsilevitch studied at the faculty of philology of Leningrad University from 1946 to 1951. In 1952 began to work in Daugavpils Pedagogical Institute as lecturer, senior lecturer, assistant professor. Since 1985 was a professor.

L. Tsilevitch defended a candidate thesis in 1958. In 1983 defended a doctor's thesis.

In 1992 he was awarded a title of habilitated doctor of philology.

His theme of research refers to the works of A. Chehov. He worked at Daugavpils Pedagogical Institute for over 40 years, where read different courses on the Russian literature.

Son –  Boris Tsilevitch (1956) from 1998 is a deputy of the Saeima of Latvia.
