Bishop Albert

A memorial to the founder of Riga, Bishop Albert (Buxhövden) (ca. 1165 – 1229), was erected by the south wall of the Dom Cathedral in 1897. The sculpture was lost during the First World War. In 2001 the memorial was restored through the donations of Baltic Germans. The restored monument was unveiled at the celebrations dedicated to the 800-th anniversary of Riga.
