Phoenix Joint Stock Company in Riga

In 1895 the owner of the largest carriage building works in Russia, Oscar Freivit, set up the AO Phoenix. In Riga construction was started on the Railway Carriage and Tram Building Works. The factory’s first output came at the end of the 19th Century. Up to 1915 more than 25,000 railway carriages were manufactured. Trams were exported to Italy.
