Mikhail Orlov

Mikhail Orlov (1918-1944)  – the Great Patriotic War (World War II) Participant, Hero of the Soviet Union. Born in Latgale (East Latvia).

The title Hero of the Soviet Union was posthumously conferred on Captain Mikhail Orlov, born in Latgale (East Latvia). In August 1944 his company was surrounded at the Mežare station on Latvian territory. Orlov died in heavy fighting but his company managed to break through the ring.
