Garold Astakhov
Garold Astakhov (1966-2009) – Russian public leader of Latvia, president of the Russian Community in Latvia in the second half of the 1990-ies.
G. Astakhov was born on 8 November 1966 in Jurmala, He has got two higher educations – engineer-builder and teacher. In independent Latvia got engaged in public activities, for some years occupied the position of deputy Chairperson of the Russian Community Council, at the 2nd half of the 1990-ies became the President of the Russian Community of Latvia. G.Astakhov protected the interests of the Russian population of Latvia in the sphere og language and culture, organized pickets and protest actions against unfair laws about the state language.
