Bishop Alexander (Matryonin)
Alexander (Matryonin; 1973) – Archbishop of Daugavpils and Rezekne.
On 6 September 1973 in Riga was born Alexander (secular name Sergey Matryonin) future bishop of Daugavpils and Rezekne. In the 1990-ies he studied painting and graphics and took part of the restoration of Riga All Saints church. In 1991 became subdeacon of the Most Eminent Alexander (Kudryashov) at those time being the bishop of Riga and all Latvia who gave him the name Alexander.
On 6 September 1998 he was promoted by the archbishop of Riga and all Lanvia Alexander into dignity of priest.
In 1999 Alexander was tonsured as monk.
In 2001 before Easter was dignified to Father Superior.
At the beginning of the 21st century took part in the work of different committes in charge of the visit of Holy relics and miraculous icons to Riga.
He was awarded the right of wearing a decorated Cross by the Most Holy Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Alexy II.
In December 2005 was elected secretary of Church Judgment of Latvian Orthodox Church.
In 2006 Alexander was dignified archimandrite.
In August 2006 he became the bishop of Daugavpils and vicar of Latvian Orthodox Church.
On 12 March 2013 on the judgement of the Holy Synod was appointed the Most Holy bishop of Daugavpils and Rezekne.
