Alexander Nikonov

Alexander Nikonov (1918, Pskov Goverrnorate, Russia – 1995, Moscow, Russian Federation) – a Minister of Agriculture of the Latvian SSR in 1951-1961. Academician. From 1984 to 1992 – the President of the All-Union Academy of Agricultural Sciences (VASKhNIL). From 1990 to 1995 – director of Agricultural Institute in Moscow.

Spent his childhood and youth in the eastern part of Latvia. Served in the Red Army (in the 201st Latvian Rifle Division) during the Second World War.
